Simulation software upgraded
Moldflow Corp. (Framingham, MA) introduced the newest version of its Plastics Advisers software (MPA 8.1), complete with new technologies and key enhancements, late last year. According to the company, the revamped simulation tool will enable users to analyze a broader range of parts in 3D, improve productivity via a redesigned user interface, shorten analysis prep time, interpret results more efficiently, and increase collaborative capabilities.
MPA 8.1 still features 3D analysis capability for the simulation of parts with thick, solid regions or variations in wall thickness, but the new version is easier to use and more accessible. For complex geometries, 3D simulation can better predict and avoid manufacturing defects before a mold is ever made, say Moldflow sources.
Other new features include:
- Panel-based user interface streamlines workflow, provides uninterrupted access to models, and increases user productivity.
- Runner and cooling channel layouts can be quickly and easily imported from CAD systems or created using new modeling planes, snap tools, and visual cues to aid in precise positioning.
- New results visualization options allow for the comparison of results from multiple analysis iterations to realize design improvements and better understand plastics material behavior.
- Enhanced report generation capabilities make it possible to automatically generate reports in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint formats in addition to HTML.
- New and enhanced tools include a redesigned Cost Adviser for detailed part cost analysis and better planning, a new Job Manager that allows users to take maximum advantage of available CPU resources, and a tool for comparing material properties.
